Where it all begins

I loved horses from a young age and my family wasn't a horse family. I grew up with pigs, cats, bunnies, chickens, a loving dog and when I was a little older goats for a few years. My parents bought me toy and stuffed horses and even the fur real friend horse named Butterscotch. It didn't satisfy me, so when I turned double digits I found a barn to teach me the basics. My dad said I couldn't do horses in 4-H but a few months into riding lessons, my instructor asked if I would like to do her 4-H club and said I could lease a horse from her. I asked dad again and he said, "Fine, you can, but you can't get a horse," so I did 4-H with her horse named Jenny. Lets say it was busy at fair that year because it was my third year doing goats and my first year with horses. A year later I asked dad for my own horse and since I had proven that I was willing to do all the work that goes with having a horse he said yes and I got an Arabian horse named Fortune. The minute I got on her, I felt a click and bought her on the spot. I was 11 when I got her. Fortune is 5 months younger than I am and is now 16. A few months later I got my miniature paint horse named Feona. She was 1 1/2 and is now 5. I have to say learning the basics at the barn and proving that I was willing to do the work was what convinced my dad to let me get a horse of my own. So if you have a desire for your own horse, find a barn that is willing to teach you the basics so one day you can hopefully own one too!
