The Story of My Juliet

I had a 4 year old Quarter Horse (Juliet) for 6 months. I loved her From the minute I saw her and I rode her but she needed lots of work. By work I mean training, she was green broke. I got her home and introduced her to my horse (Fortune) and they hit it off right away but when I introduced her to my mini (Feona) she tried to bite and kick her. I took Feona away and then a thought hit me. She never seen a mini before and she probably thought it was a big dog after her. I put Feona in her pen and Juliet was fine as long as she could look through the window and see Feona. So I let them see each other through the window for a couple of days then slowly let Feona outside with a leadline for a few minutes, then off the leadline. By doing that and with the help of Fortune (lol), Juliet started to accept that Feona wasn't a threat to her.

In the meantime it got harder and harder to put the bit into her mouth. I had to stand on a stool to force it in because she would put her head straight up in the air. I have to say, she is 15.3 hands tall so when she puts her head up it is hard to reach without a stool. She also had an overbite but we were told it wouldn't bother her training. As the months went by she was sweet on the ground and was advancing in showmanship training but back tracking in the under saddle training. When the vet came to give the horses their shots and do their teeth, she went to do Juliet's teeth and she said her overbite was one of the worst ones she had seen. Then all the bit problems made since because of how bad her overbite was. I told Juliet I was sorry for causing her pain. I tried to use a hackamore but she ran right through it. So I had to come to a hard decision and return her to her old owner. She would make a great showmanship horse but I am into jumping, speed, and trail riding. The picture below is a picture of Juliet.
