Is mud good for horses? Yes and no; a little mud is good but a lot of it can cause hoof and leg problems. A little mud helps the hoof to not dry up and crack. When there is too much mud, the soles of the hooves get soft and are more prone to abscess. Also when there is a lot of mud the horse could become unbalanced and slip. When the mud is deep it sucks at their feet making it hard to walk. If a horse walks in deep mud for long periods of time, they could get joint pain and/or back pain.
