How to Teach Your Horse to Move Off Your Body

Do you have to push your horse over to do a pivot or side pass? I have to with my horse (Juliet). My western trainer told me of a trick that helps with moving off the body. Put the halter on and then the chain. Then walk with her following you. After a little bit, turn with out warning and walk into her with a purpose and she will back or pivot or side pass for you. You might have to do this a few times but in the end she will go off your body.
