Do you want to do an obstacle coarse with your horse but she is scared of the tarp you used to make a fake stream? I can help! My horse (Fortune) and I did an obstacle coarse and there was a tarp she was scared of, so we had to go around it. At the end of the coarse, I made her go back around to the tarp and go in circles around it till she stepped on it and realized it wasn't going to hurt her. I made her do this multable times. Next I walked off and turned her towards it and made her go all the way over it. The first couple of times she tried to jump the tarp but I would pull her short so she would land on the tarp instead of the sand on the other side of the tarp. By the end, she was walking over it like she was never scared of it in the first place. Yes, I did it within ten minutes but another horse might take days to do it. Fortune still is scared of rope gates even though I have worked hard to help her through that fear, while another horse may be a champ at rope gates. Please read these next couple of sentences carefully and take them to mind. HAVE PATIENCE WITH YOUR HORSE! DON'T RUSH HIM - THAT GETS YOU NOWHERE IN THE LONG RUN. Just think, we all have fears to overcome. Would you want someone trying to push you to do or go into what you are scared of before you have enough courage? I know I wouldn't, so please don't do that to your horse.
