How to Teach a Horse to Pivot on Her Hind-end

So you want to teach your horse to pivot on the hind-end? Yes? Then what are we just sitting here for? Let's start! First put a halter and a lead-line with a chain on her. The chain goes through the side loop of the halter, under the chin, through the other side loop and hooks on the cheek ring of the halter. You have the most control this way. After that step, ask her to set up like an Arabian horse. Then step into her, and if she doesn't move tap her on the shoulder. If she backs, make her back faster and longer than she wants to, so she knows you are in control. Then try again. Ask for a 90 degree turn for the first to second week, then a 180 degree turn the second to the third week. After that ask for a 270 degree turn the third to the fourth week, then a 360 degree turn the fourth to the fifth week.

This is how an Arabian horse sets up. ^.

^. This horse is pivoting on the correct hind leg and crossing the front leg in front of the other front leg.
