One of the most important things in showmanship is the pivot. Why is that? It shows that you can control your horses feet. Ok, so how do you teach a horse to pivot? You can start by walking into your horse so it has to move away from you. Then slowly ask for her to only move the front end of her body. Start slow and ask for her to cross her front feet over a few times (3 at the most). Next ask her for a few more steps where she has to move the left hind foot, keeping the right foot planted to the ground. This is the most common way to teach them. Remember to practice going the opposite way as well.
