How To Teach a Horse To Go Over Ground Poles In Saddle

The first step to a good trail horse is to have them go over ground poles because you never know what you will have to step over on the trail. Ground poles are also the first step to jumping. Walk your horse over the ground poles on the ground ten times or until she is comfortable with them. When she is, get up in the saddle and walk over them ten more times or until she is comfortable. Then do it the other way on the ground and in the saddle. Don't worry if you don't get your horse comfortable with them the first day or two. After she is comfortable with walking over the ground poles try trotting them.
