When you have a show and your horse looks like it was in a mud fight and lost, you have work to do. You will need to give it a bath (only in hot weather). First rinse her down and then put shampoo on a body brush and brush her coat with the brush. After that is done put shampoo in your hand and put your hands on her mane and rake your hands into her mane. Repeat the last step with the tail and rinse off all the shampoo. Then repeat all those steps with conditioner. Last, take a sweat scraper and get most of the water off, then dry with a towel. Let the sun do the rest. Only give your horse a bath when absolutely necessary because it washes off the horses natural skin oils, causing dry skin. I give my horses a bath at the beginning of the show season and one in the middle of the show season with lots of good brushing in-between.

A correctly washed horse.
