How to Get a Stubborn Horse to Accept a Bit.

There are a lot of ways to get a horse to accept a bit. One way is to put your thumb in their mouth and hope they open their mouth for the bit. Since my three year old Quarter Horse (Juliet) was a little fussy about taking the bit my solution was to let her have a treat, then put the bit in when she went to chew the treat. After a few times she took the bit without the treat. In order to do that you have to put the bit on the last hole on the head stall and put the head stall on first. Then fasten the throat latch and finally put the treat in followed by the bit and quickly tighten it up a few holes till it is snug in the horses mouth. Easy peasy!
